Sometimes personal needs generate an amazing outcome: I needed a new yoga bolster cover and I wanted to work with the patchwork technique. To maximize the outcome i added a sprinkle of mini granny squares on top.
The measurements of my bolster: diameter of 22 cm for the circles on each end, circumference of 60 cm and height of 66 cm. So each stripe got a width of 3 cm.
A mix of used and new fabrics
The dark blue linen and the olive viskose originated from much used, broken trousers . The light blue linen was an unused linen table cloth and the rose linen was a table napkin – both i never used, because i did not have the heart to dirty these beautiful fabrics. And finally they got a new life:

A mix of hand-sewing, machine-sewing and crocheting
The patchwork pattern itself is machine-sewed. I chose the zigzag stitch for serging the seam allowances, because the cover will not get a lining. And because i do not own an overlock machine yet.
To fix the seam allowances in a proper way, I hand stitched the seams with running stitches using cotton quilting yarn. It gives the patchwork pattern an organic feel, which i like.

Then I attached the mini grannies, which are made of 3 rounds on the finalized patchwork cloth in a different angle than the line of the patchwork pattern. In the end they will spiral around the bolster.

Since the completion of this cover i am using my yoga bolster at last. It makes me happy every time.
